Binh An Beach You won’t find this in your guidebook! A long, long stretch of 100m wide soft sand backed with pine trees, clear water, a small fishing village, and morning-fresh prawns, crabs and lobsters grilled to perfection and washed down with ice-cold beer for the price of a sandwich and a cup of coffee in New York or London. It’s a recent discovery, but is now a regular lunch destination on all our tours that include travelling between Hue and Danang. This stretch of beach is between Hue and Lang Co, and is usually more or less empty. A track takes you and your car on to the beach to park beside Mr. Diep’s seafood restaurant, a large sun awning with a kitchen nearby. It’s one of best of about a dozen similar establishments. Travelling from Danang to Hue, or vice-versa, you’ll arrive there around mid-morning, with plenty of time to swim, sunbathe or lounge under Mr. Binh’s sun shelter, pausing for a pre-prandial beer or two while you choose your lunch menu. It usually takes about half an hour or so to prepare – Mr. Binh or his wife will call you and supply you with a bucket of fresh water to sluice off the sand and salt when it’s almost ready. It’s hard to beat sitting in the shade, watching the seabirds and listening to the waves lapping the shore whilst eating an alfresco gourmet meal. Sadly, the restaurant closes during
the rainy season when winds strengthen and make swimming dangerous
from late March to late August. However, as you’re travelling with
Haivenu, Mr. Binh will invite you into his house where the lunch
will be every bit as good. |
