Highlights:
A holiday to Phnom Penh, the Silver Pagoda, sunset cruise on the Chatomouk River, Siem Reap and the Angkor Temple complex, and cruising on Ton Le Sap.
|
Your holiday begins with a night in Phnom Penh
Sadly, most of historic Phnom Penh was razed by the Kh'mer Rouge, but much of the famous Silver Pagoda remains, and is an oriental gem. The Royal Palace and the National Museum are rewarding visits, and a relaxing river cruise rounds off the day pleasantly.
There's an option to visit Tuol Sleng (now the Museum of Genocide), a High School converted into the infamous S-21 torture and interrogation centre, and the Choeung Ek extermination centre, collectively known as the ‘Killing Fields'. Allow an extra day if you want to add this to your tailor-made itinerary.
Meals: one lunch and one dinner
Guide: transfer from airport and the afternoon
Two nights in Siem Reap and two splendid days in Angkor
To attempt to describe the Angkor complex could only result in a string of superlatives – it is literally awe-inspiring. You have to see it for yourself to appreciate its scope and vision.
For those interested in Kh'mer culture and architecture, a month would be an inadequate visit, but for lay people, a couple of days is enough to provide a good overview of this unique memorial to a long-dead civilisation at its cultural zenith.
If time permits, a stroll to the top of one of the nearby hills allows a stunning panorama of the complex.
Meals: two breakfasts, two lunches and two dinners
Guide: from arrival in Siem Reap to returning to your hotel at the end of the second day.
Leaving Cambodia
Your visit to Angkor draws to a close with a trip on the remarkable Ton Le Sap. In the afternoon, your car and driver will arrive at your hotel to take you to the airport in good time for your flight
Meals: one breakfast and one lunch
