Attractions: Vietnam beaches,
tropical islands, luxury spa vacations, luxury villas,
scuba diving, snorkelling, sand dunes, mineral spa and mud bath,
golf, private beaches for family vacations.
Destinations:
Da Nang, Hoian, Nha Trang, Phan Thiet/Mui Ne, Phu Quoc Island
 My
Khe/Cua Dai Beach, between Da Nang and
Hoi An
Thirty kilometres of white sand, part of which was known as China Beach
and used for rest and recreation by GIs during the Viet Nam War. The beach
is excellent for tropical beach vacations and swimming is good during
the summer. Winter surf can be dangerous, but the Da Nang end of the beach
is sheltered and therefore safer. There are resort areas at each extremity,
each with a small number of hotels on the beach offering a range of water
sports and other activities, and many more places to stay further inland.
Three World Heritage Areas (Hoi An Ancient Town, My Son Sanctuary and
Hue Imperial City) are within easy reach and there are plenty of things
to see and do in the vicinity.

 Nha
Trang
The town of Nha Trang is built along a wide sandy beach fringed with coconut
palms. Nha Trang is the only resort in Vietnam offering luxury
spa vacations and luxury villas on its exclusive tropical islands.
Close to the town, it is busy with vendors offering a wide range of refreshments
and services, but quieter further away. Once known as Viet Nam's St. Tropez,
Nha Trang is the closest thing to a Western-style resort in the country.
The beach is good for tropical island vacations and safe for swimming,
although heavy rain in November and December makes the normally crystal-clear
water very murky.
Boat trips
take visitors for cruises and barbeques on the several rocky islands in
the bay. There are several scuba diving centres with good facilities.
There is a hot spring spa near the Cham tower just outside the town -
visitors can wallow in mud, shower in spring water, and bathe in a large
hot mineral water swimming pool set in beautiful gardens for just over
$3 - amazing value! Apart from one small luxury beachside resort, there
are only two hotels above Mid-range standard. However, a First-class luxury
resort hotel is nearing completion an island close to Nha Trang, and should
be in operation by Christmas, 2003.
There is
a wide selection of inexpensive Vietnamese and international restaurants
and some after-dark entertainment. Eighty kilometres to the north is Whale
Island. An attractive natural area with a single resort hotel and diving
centre, it is an excellent location for diving, water sports, romantic
holidays and relaxation.

Phan
Thiet
Phan Thiet itself is undistinguished apart from an international hotel
and a good golf course. Not far away is Mui Ne Beach, famous for its huge
rolling dunes. It is very much a ‘getaway’ resort. Apart from a beautiful
beach and places to stroll in the cool of the evenings, there is little
to do - an ideal location for an inexpensive romantic long weekend and
tropical vacations. There is a good range of hotels on the beach, some
offering accommodation in bamboo villas and bungalows.

Phu
Quoc Island
Although Phu Quoc is less developed than most of the resort areas in Viet
Nam, it boasts some of its best beaches. Some are accessible on foot,
but most require a bicycle or motorcycle ride. Both are cheap and easy
to hire, but the island's roads are mostly poor. Much of the island is
covered by forest, part of which is protected as a Forest Reserve.
To the south
are several small islands that can be visited by boat. There are plenty
of opportunities for fishing and snorkelling, and a diving centre has
recently opened. Facilities for visitors are fairly basic: apart from
one three-star resort, there are only local hotels in this comparatively
remote area. However, its beauty and solitude, and the chance to visit
the island before it is discovered by the tourism industry, more than
compensates.
